Bentley’s 3rd Period Rally Falls Short in 3-2 Defeat

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Third period goals by Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City) and Matt Blomquist (Blaine, Minn./Coulee Region) weren't enough to bring Bentley back as they dropped a 3-2 decision to RIT on Friday night in Atlantic Hockey action.

RIT (9-5-1 AHC) held a 3-0 edge after a goal by junior Todd Skirving out in front of the net at the 5:05 mark of the 3rd period.

Bentley (6-8-2 AHC) though got back in it when Schmidt fired in his 9th goal of the season a little less than two minutes later with a shot from behind the right faceoff circle, assisted by freshmen Jake Ahlgren (Fergus Falls, Minn./Wenatchee) and Drew Callin (Middleton, Wisc./Janesville).

A high-sticking penalty on RIT at the 7:52 mark brought Bentley its fourth power play opportunity of the game, and they cashed in just past the 8:00 minute point on Blomquist's goal to cut the deficit to 3-2. Blomquist took a feed from Andrew Gladiuk (White Rock, B.C./Nanaimo) and blasted a slap shot from inside the blue line for his 3rd goal of the season.

In the final minute with the goalie pulled, Bentley nearly tied it when a shot by defenseman Billy Eiserman (Newburyport, Mass./Chicago) went just wide with Gladiuk on the far post.

RIT's first two goals on the night came from defenseman Alexander Kuqali at 4:57 of the 1st period and freshman Mark Logan at 3:28 of the 2nd.

These two teams will be back at it tomorrow night in the series finale from the JAR. Faceoff is set for 7:05 pm.
