Holy Cross Edges Bentley in OT 2-1

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Holy Cross' Mike Barrett scored 1:09 into overtime to give the Crusaders a narrow 2-1 win over the Bentley hockey team on Saturday night in the final game of the first half of the season.

The goal brought to an end a hard-fought series that saw both games go to overtime after Friday's 1-1 tie, and in particular a hard-nosed game on Saturday that came down to the wire.

The deciding goal by Barrett came off a Holy Cross face-off win in its offensive zone that resulted in shot by Danny Lopez that was blocked by the Bentley defense. The rebound though came to Barrett, who fired his shot five-hole to give Holy Cross the win.

Defenseman Billy Eiserman (Newburyport, Mass./Chicago) had given Bentley a 1-0 lead with just 1:45 left in the 2nd period after he blasted a slap shot from the blue line that got through traffic in front of the net and past goalie Paul Berrafato.

In the third period and still leading 1-0, Bentley looked to be closing in on the win as Gabe Antoni (Lansdale, Pa./Springfield) put on a stellar showing in the face of 12 Holy Cross shots in the period. But Holy Cross tied it on a seeing-eye shot by forward Scott Pooley from the left face-off circle with 4:40 remaining to tie the score 1-1.

Antoni finished with 28 saves, while his counterpart Berrafato finished with 32.

The defeat drops Bentley's record to 7-8-2 overall and 5-4-2 in Atlantic Hockey games, while the Crusaders improve to 10-6-1 and 9-3-1.

Now heading into the semester break, the Falcons are off until January 2nd when they open a series at Air Force.
