French’s OT Goal Sends Bentley Past RIT 3-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y.- Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) scored with just 31 seconds left in overtime to give the Bentley hockey team a hard fought 3-2 road win over RIT Friday night at the Polesseni Center in Atlantic Hockey action.

French's goal, upheld by a review and assisted by Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City) and Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitboa/Portage), gives Bentley its fourth win in six games and improves its Atlantic Hockey record to 2-2-1 on the season.

French also scored the first goal of the game 6:15 into the opening period, assisted by Schmidt and defenseman Billy Eiserman (Newburyport, Mass./Chicago Steel), to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The junior has been red hot since returning to the lineup with six goals in just four games.

RIT tied it shortly after French's opening goal, getting on the scoreboard courtesy of defenseman Brady Norrish at 8:10. But just 11 seconds after Norrish tied it, freshman Jake Ahlgren (Fergus Falls, Minn./Wenatchee) struck for the second time this season to give Bentley the lead, assisted by Derek Bacon (Calgary, Alberta/Okotoks).

RIT tied it 2-2 on another goal by Norrish, this time a power play goal at 19:06 of the 2nd period. The score stayed that way until French won it for Bentley just 31 seconds before the final whistle. Senior Gabe Antoni (Lansdale, Pa./Springfield) came on in relief for Bentley in the 3rd period and made 13 of 13 saves to earn the win.

These two teams will conclude their series tomorrow night with Bentley looking for the sweep.
