No. 16 Merrimack Surges in 3rd Period in 5-1 Win over Bentley

WATERTOWN, Mass. – No. 16 Merrimack used a four goal surge at the start of the 3rd period to take a 5-1 win over Bentley at Ryan Arena Wednesday night in non-conference action. Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) had his fourth goal in three games for Bentley.

Almost the entire 1st period was scoreless until Merrimack defenseman Matt Cronin blasted home a slap shot at the 18:44 mark to give the Warriors the lead heading into the 1st intermission.

Merrimack held that lead for most of the 2nd period until French tied it with just 33 seconds left after he took a pass from Andrew Gladiuk (White Rock, B.C./Nanaimo) from behind the net. The two goalies, Bentley's Jayson Argue (Swan River, Manitoba/Nanaimo) and Merrimack's Collin Delia were locked in a duel at that point, with Argue making 22 saves and Delia 14.

Bentley's momentum off of French's goal was short lived however, as Merrimack scored just 1:44 into the 3rd on a goal center Hampus Gustafsson, and less than two minutes later they went up 3-1 on a goal by left wing Justin Hussar.

Cronin scored his 2nd of the night a minute after Hussar's goal, and when center Michael Babcock found the back of the net at 6:27, Merrimack led 5-1.

The defeat snaps Bentley's four game unbeaten streak and drops its overall record to 3-3-1. Merrimack improves to 4-1-2 on the year.

Following this game Bentley is off for the weekend, and they return to the ice on Nov. 13 at RIT for the start of a weekend series.
