WATERTOWN, Mass. – RIT scored three goals in the final 6:47 to pull away from Bentley to win 5-2 Saturday night at Ryan Arena and earn a split of the weekend series. Junior forward Josh Mitchell scored the go-ahead goal with 6:47 left to break a 2-2 tie.

Bentley trailed 2-1 going into the third period, but quickly tied it up on a slap shot blast from the point by defenseman Matt Blomquist (Blaine, Minn./Coulee Region) just 21 seconds in. That came on the heels of Bentley coming up empty on a lengthy 5-on-3 power play at the end of the second period.

Mitchell's goal came after a shot by senior Brad McGowan was saved by Bentley goalie Gabe Antoni (Lansdale, Pa./Springfield), but yielded a big rebound which Mitchell pounced on and deposited into the back of the net.

The Falcons had a chance to tie with its sixth power play of the night shortly after Mitchell's goal, only to come up empty. RIT captain Matt Garbowsky then essentially put the game away at 4-2 his second tally of the night at 18:39. Mitchell then scored an empty-net goal with 31 seconds left to provide the final margin.

Bentley jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 3:32 into the first period on captain Alex Grieve's (Calgary, Alberta/Westside) first goal since returning from an injury. Sophomore Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) set the goal up with an initial shot on goal that was saved by RIT goalie Mike Rotolo. But the rebound bounced to Grieve who was crashing the net, and he lifted his shot past Rotolo to give the Falcons the lead.

Bentley took that 1-0 into the first intermission, but RIT tied it up just 34 seconds into the second period on a goal by Garbowsky off a Bentley turnover. Mitchell grabbed the puck off the turnover and fed Garbowsky, who beat Antoni with a backhand shot that he tucked into the near post.

RIT then made 2-1 at 15:02 of the second on a goal by Andrew Miller. Bentley had a golden opportunity for the tying goal after being given a 5-on-3 for 1:38, but they could not convert.

The Tigers improve to 8-6-4 in Atlantic Hockey with the win, while the Falcons drop to 9-7-3 in conference game. They're back in action next weekend with a road trip to Mercyhurst.
