Grieve Named 2014-15 Bentley Hockey Captain; Kubiak, Switzer & Weinstein Picked as Assistants

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University head hockey coach Ryan Soderquist has announced that senior center Alex Grieve (Calgary, Alberta/Westside Warriors) will captain the 2014-15 Falcons. Senior forwards Alex Kubiak (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Steel) and Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Spruce Grove Saints) and senior defenseman Steve Weinstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Vernon Vipers) will be the assistant captains.

Grieve was an assistant captain last season and is coming off a stellar junior year where he finished among the top-10 nationally in both goals and points. His 25 goals, which set a new program Division I single-season record, were sixth, and his 47 points were tied for ninth. He was named second team All-Atlantic Hockey, and recently completed a stint at the New York Islanders' Development Camp.

Kubiak played in 32 games last season and notched two goals and 10 assists for 12 points, while being a key part of Bentley's penalty kill unit, which ended the season with the third best percentage in Atlantic Hockey. He was recently chosen to the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team for the third straight year.

Switzer was a part of Bentley's high-scoring top-line last season, producing an 11-19-30 scoring line in 37 games. He finished in the top-20 in Atlantic Hockey in both assists and points, and was also named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team for the third straight season. Switzer's older brother, Mike, was a four-year defenseman for Bentley who graduated in 2012.

Weinstein led the nation in points per game among defensemen last season, averaging 1.03. He led all Division I blue liners with 37 assists, which was fifth in the nation overall. That number also set a new Bentley single-season record, and helped him be named first team All-Atlantic Hockey. The LA native was also named one of three finalists for the Walter Brown Award, and to the New England Division I All-Star team.

The quartet of seniors will lead the Falcons into the 2014-15 season, which begins on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Quinnipiac.
