Bentley Drops Series Finale to Sacred Heart 3-1

MILFORD, Conn. – A night after scoring six goals against Sacred Heart in a thrilling 6-6 tie, Bentley University could only muster one goal in a 3-1 defeat to the Pioneers at the Milford Ice Pavilion in the finale of the team's Atlantic Hockey series.

The teams were locked in a scoreless tie for more than 30 minutes until Sacred Heart's Chad Barthelmess put the Pioneers on the board at 11:12 of the second period. A little over three minutes later Sacred Heart scored again, as freshman Jake Lynes put one in off a funny bounce of the puck off the boards behind the net to make it 2-0 at 14:28.

As the third period began, Bentley began to fight back on a goal by senior Joe Campanelli (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Westminster Prep) at 2:29, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The goal came just seconds after a Bentley power play ended, one of its five on the night, as Campanelli took a pass in the right face-off circle from  Alex Kubiak (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Steel) and rifled a shot past goalie Andrew Bodnarchuk. That was his fifth goal of the season.

But the Falcons did not have another comeback in them after Friday night's rally from four goals down. The Pioneers pushed their lead back to two goals at 3-1 with a goal from Chad Filteau at 5:12.

Bentley falls to 10-12-3 in Atlantic Hockey play and 12-16-3 overall with the loss. They will enter the final weekend of the regular season against AIC in eighth place, holding onto the final home playoff spot in the first round.
