UConn Completes Sweep of Bentley with 9-0 Victory

STORRS, Conn. – UConn scored three times in just under a minute early in the first period Monday night on its way to a 9-0 victory over the Bentley University hockey team to complete the series sweep. Eight different players scored for the Huskies.

The Falcons have now dropped five straight games and fall to 11-15-1 overall and 9-11-1 in Atlantic Hockey play. UConn improves to 13-12-3 on the season and 10-9-2 in the conference with its second straight win.

Bentley put itself in a difficult situation early on as they were called for a five minute boarding major just 2:05 into the contest. The penalty kill salted away more than four minutes of the penalty until UConn's Billy Latta scored at the 6:16 mark.

With the power play still going the Huskies added another goal just 30 seconds later from defenseman Kyle Huson to go up 2-0. The penalty expired 19 seconds after Huson's goal, but the Huskies weren't finished as Brad Smith made it 3-0 at 7:10, giving them three goals in 54 seconds. Freshman Patrick Kirtland scored with 2:49 left in the period to give the hosts a 4-0 advantage at the first intermission.

The Huskies added two more goals in the second period and three more in the third period to finish out the scoring.

The loss is Bentley's biggest margin of defeat since Dec. 12, 2008 against Ohio State.

The Falcons return to the ice on Friday when they host Army in the first game of a home-and-home series.
