UConn Takes Series Opener From Bentley, 4-1

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Junior Brant Harris scored a pair of third period goals as the UConn Huskies defeated Bentley University 4-1 Sunday night in Atlantic Hockey action at Ryan Arena. The Falcons have now dropped four straight games.

The first period did not yield any goals, but the Huskies got on the scoreboard twice in the first 5:10 of the second period. Freshman defenseman Kyle Huson gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at the 1:59 mark, firing a wrist shot from the right face-off circle that rang in off the far post.

Senior Sean Ambrosie doubled UConn's lead at 5:10, fighting through traffic in front of the net to knock in a loose puck.

But Bentley got one back towards the end of the second period as junior Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) notched his team-leading 13th goal of the season at 15:52 to make it 2-1. Gensler took a pass from line mate Alex Grieve (Calgary, Alberta/Westside Warriors) in the right face-off circle and beat Huskies goalie Matt Grogan to the near post for the goal.

Harris though put UConn back up by two goals, 2:29 into the third period with a power play goal to make the score 3-1. Harris then gave the Huskies a 4-1 advantage with under seven minutes to go, beating the goalie to the glove side with a wrist shot.

The Falcons fall to 11-14-1 overall with the loss and 9-10-1 in Atlantic Hockey play. UConn improves to 12-12-3 overall and 9-9-2 in the conference.

The second game of this blizzard delayed home-and-home series is Monday night at UConn's Freitas Ice Forum. Face-off is 7:05 pm.
