Holy Cross Edges Bentley 4-3

WORCESTER, Mass. – In a tight game between Atlantic Hockey rivals Bentley University and Holy Cross, a tiebreaking goal by the Crusaders' Erik Vos with 11:15 remaining in the contest proved to be the difference as they edged the Falcons 4-3 Friday night.

Turnovers proved to be costly for Bentley, as the Crusaders punished them for mistakes in their own zone that led directly to two goals, including Vos' game-winner.

After a goal by Bentley's Justin Breton (Fitchburg, Mass./Boston Jr. Bruins) tied the score at three with 12:25 to go, Vos put the Crusaders right back in front at 4-3 with a power play goal, taking advantage of a Falcons turnover in their own end.

With the score still 4-3, goalie Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) was pulled for the final 1:10. Bentley had a few good shots on net but couldn't convert, and the Crusaders held on for the win.

Bentley trailed 3-1 in the second period after Brandon Nunn scored with 5:55 left off a turnover, but the Falcons responded just 1:13 later on the power play with freshman Andrew Gladiuk (White Rock, British Columbia/Nanaimo Clippers)  netting his second of the game. As Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) skated in on net, he found Gladiuk on the right post, who beat goalie Matt Ginn up-top with a wrist shot to make the score 3-2.

The Falcons jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Gladiuk's first of the night just 1:05 into the first period The goal was setup by a shot from the point by defenseman Kyle O'Brien (Tewksbury, Mass./Cushing Prep) that bounced off the boards right to Gladiuk on the far post, who backhanded his shot past Ginn.

The Crusaders though answered back strongly, tying the game just 1:45 later on a power play goal from senior Kyle Fletcher. The hosts then went up 2-1 at the 8:11 mark of the first period on a goal by Rob Linsmayer.

Bentley falls to 3-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play with the defeat, while the Crusaders go to 5-2-0 overall and 4-2-0 in Atlantic Hockey.

The Falcons are back on the ice next Friday night at AIC. Game time is 7:05 pm.
