Robert Scores Late as Bentley Rallies for Draw on Senior Night

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Senior Jeremy Robert (Maplewood, Minn./Bismarck Bobcats) scored with 18 seconds left in regulation as Bentley rallied from 3-0 down in the third period to tie with Holy Cross 3-3 in an entertaining Atlantic Hockey affair on Senior Night at Ryan Skating Arena.

The Falcons were starring at a 3-0 deficit past the midway point of the third period but came to life over the final 10 minutes of regulation to force overtime.

Goalie Joe Calvi (New Lenox, Ill./New England Jr. Huskies) went to the bench with 1:35 left for the extra-attacker, and Holy Cross' Shayne Stockton nearly put the game away with a goal, but Dustin Cloutier (Berkley, Mich./Mahoning Valley Phantoms) blocked his shot before it went into the empty-net.

Holy Cross was called for icing with 22 seconds left, setting up a face-off in Bentley's offensive zone. Cloutier won it, and the puck found its way to Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms), who fed Robert a pass from the right wing that he tipped in past goalie Adam Roy to tie the score.

Calvi came up big with four saves in overtime, but Bentley had two terrific chances to score. The first came when Aaron Stonacek (Basehor, Kan./Fairbanks Ice Dogs) took a shot from distance that likely had Roy beat but hit the post. The second chance came when a Gensler pass from just outside the offensive zone led to a breakaway for Cloutier, but Roy denied him.

Cloutier got the rally started, scoring a power play goal at 10:35 of the third off a nice give-and-go with Gensler. Less than a minute later, Dan Koudys (Grimsby, Ontario/Burlington Cougars) forced a turnover in Holy Cross' own zone and hit Herbie Kent (Amesbury, Mass./The Governor's Academy) in the slot for his second goal of the year.

Holy Cross dominated the first period, outshooting Bentley 9-3 and scoring twice on goals by Kyle Fletcher and Matt Gordon. Bentley began to turn the tables a bit in the second period, owning a 12-7 advantage in shots, but the Crusaders still went into the third up 3-0 on Fletcher's second goal of the evening.

Bentley finishes the regular season at 10-17-6 overall and 8-12-5 in Atlantic Hockey. They finish 10th overall in the league, fourth in the Eastern pod, and will host Sacred Heart on March 5 in the first round of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament.

Holy Cross extends its unbeaten streak to 11 and finishes the regular season at 15-14-5 and 14-8-5.
