Sacred Heart Scores Five Unanswered to Top Bentley 6-3

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Visiting Sacred Heart scored five unanswered goals over the final period-and-a-half as the Pioneers rallied to defeat Bentley University 6-3 Friday night in Atlantic Hockey play at Ryan Skating Arena.

The Pioneers trailed 3-1 after a shorthanded goal by Bentley's Erik Peterson (Shorewood, Minn./Sioux Falls Stampede) at 5:05 of the second period, but went ahead for good with a flurry of three goals in a span of less than four minutes.

David Berube made it a one-goal game at 8:44, and Anthony Yelovich tied the score at three with a one-timer goal at 11:37. Just 57 seconds later, Ben Ketchum scored on the power play to give the Pioneers their first lead of the game.

The Falcons had their chances to equalize in the third period, and goalie Joe Calvi (New Lenox, Ill./New England Jr. Huskies) kept it a one-goal game throughout most of the period, until Ketchum scored a back-breaking goal with 2:28 left after a Bentley turnover in its own zone.

Bentley looked good early on, taking a quick 1-0 lead on Joe Campanelli's (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Westminster Prep) sixth goal of the season. However, Matt Gingera quickly erased the lead with a tally just 1:04 later.

Defenseman Mike Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Olds Grizzlys) gave Bentley a 2-1 lead to take into the first intermission after he lit the lamp with the Falcons enjoying a 5-on-3 advantage. Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) hit Switzer with a pass as he was driving down the slot and buried his shot past goalie Olivier St. Onge.

After Peterson's goal made it 3-1, Sacred Heart stole the momentum away with its three-goal flourish and Bentley never recovered.

The Pioneers snap a five-game losing streak and improve to 4-17-5 overall and 4-10-5 in Atlantic Hockey, while the Falcons drop to 7-14-5 and 6-10-4 in the conference.

These two teams are back it Saturday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. start at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn.
