Bentley, Army Draw 1-1 as Falcons Have Three-Point Weekend

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Bentley University and Army played to a 1-1 stalemate Saturday night in Atlantic Hockey play as the Falcons took three points from the Black Knights this weekend at Ryan Skating Arena.

Bentley had two great chances to score in the extra session. The first came when freshman Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) intercepted an Army clearing attempt and fed a pass to senior Erik Peterson (Shorewood, Minn./Sioux Falls Stampede). Peterson then skated on net and tried to deke goalie Ryan Leets, but Leets wasn't fooled and made a kick save.

With the puck still in the offensive zone, Gensler had a shot from point blank range but his attempt went just wide of the net.

The Falcons scored the game's first goal on sophomore Brett Hartung's (Tallahassee, Fla./Wichita Falls Wildcats) second goal of the series at 8:11 of the first period. Junior Aaron Stonacek (Basehor, Kan./Fairbanks Ice Dogs) won a face-off in the offensive zone and directed the puck right to Hartung, who took a wrist shot that beat Leets for his seventh goal of the season.

Army waited until the third period to score as Mike Hull knotted the game at one at 6:12, taking a wrist shot from the right wing that found its way into the net.

The goaltenders were the stars of the night as Leets made 37 saves, six in overtime, and freshman Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Herron), making his second straight start for Bentley, stopped 28 shots.

The Falcons' record goes to 7-13-5 overall and 6-9-4 in Atlantic Hockey, and they've earned five points out of their last three conference games. Army goes to 7-15-4 overall and 6-9-4 in conference play.

Bentley is back in action on Friday when they open a home-and-home series with Sacred Heart at Ryan Skating Arena.
