Mercyhurst Uses Big Second Period to Cruise Past Bentley

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Mercyhurst scored four goals in the second period on its way to an 8-2 win over Bentley University in Atlantic Hockey action Friday night. Phil Ginand, Paul Chiasson and Jeff Terminesi each had two goals for the Lakers.

Bentley was still in the game after the first period, trailing just 2-0 after goals by Ginand and Chiasson.

Chiasson put Mercyhurst up 3-0 at 5:40 of the second, and Terminesi added to the lead at 8:40. The game turned ugly after Ryan Raven made it 5-0 at 10:16, as 61 penalty minutes were doled out from that point until the next goal, Terminesi's second at 17:33. Three 10-minute misconduct penalties and one major and game misconduct penalty were called. In all, the teams racked up 65 penalty minutes in the second period.

Dan Koudys (Grimsby, Ontario/Burlington Cougars) and Jamie Nudy (West Chester, Pa./Choate Rosemary Hall) scored third period goals for the Falcons.

Goalie Ryan Zapolski made 33 saves to earn the win for Mercyhurst, who wins its fourth game in a row and improves to 11-11-2 on the season and 9-8 in Atlantic Hockey. The Falcons fall to 5-12-4 and 4-9-3.

The series concludes Saturday night at Ryan Skating Arena.
