Favot Scores Twice as RIT Tops Bentley 4-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior Andrew Favot scored twice and senior Tyler Brenner netted his 17th goal of the season as home standing RIT defeated Bentley University 4-1 in Atlantic Hockey action Friday night at Ritter Arena.

RIT took control of the game in the first period with three goals and didn't look back. After the Falcons couldn't convert on an early power play opportunity, Brenner scored the game's first goal at 10:55.

The Tigers then struck twice within a span of 1:13 in the later stages of the period. Favot scored the first goal short-handed, batting in the rebound off of his own shot that Bentley goalie Kyle Rank (Islip, N.Y./Markham Waxers) had saved, but couldn't handle. Junior Mark Cornacchia made it 3-0 at 17:31, deflecting in Chris Saracino's shot from the right face-off circle.

Favot made it 4-0 minutes into the second period with his second goal of the night, before freshman Justin Breton (Fitchburg, Mass./Boston Jr. Bruins) got one back for the Falcons short-handed at the 14:23 mark. It was Breton's second goal in three games.

Sophomore goalie Shane Madolora made 26 saves to earn his 10th win of the season for RIT, while Rank made 14 saves and senior Joe Calvi (New Lenox, Ill./New England Jr. Huskies) made 22 saves after coming on in relief.

The Tigers improve to 12-8-3 overall and 11-3-2 in conference play with the win, while Bentley drops to 5-11-3 and 4-8-2.

The series concludes Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
