Bentley Tops Sacred Heart 6-2 in Home Opener

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Sophomore Dan Koudys (Grimsby, Ontario/Burlington Cougars) and senior Erik Peterson (Shorewood, Minn./Sioux Falls Stampede) each had two goals as Bentley University defeated Sacred Heart 6-2 in the home and Atlantic Hockey opener for the Falcons.

Bentley scored three times in the second period, with the goals coming from Peterson, freshman Jared Rickord (Skokie, Ill./Springfield Jr. Blues) and Koudys on the power play.

Sacred Heart's David Berube got the Pioneers to within 3-1 with a  goal at 6:45 of the third, but just 14 seconds later, Koudys struck again to restore the three-goal margin.

Just 1:18 after Koudys' goal, sophomore Brett Hartung (Tallahassee, Fla./Wichita Falls Wildcats) scored to make it 5-1, which chased Sacred Heart goalie Steven Legatto from the game.

Senior Joe Calvi (New Lenox, Ill./New England Jr. Huskies)  was solid in net for the second straight game, making 27 saves for the win.

Bentley improves to 2-3-1 and 1-0 in Atlantic Hockey, while Sacred Heart drops to 0-5-1 and 0-1-1 in the conference.

The Falcons return to action on Nov. 12 at Niagara.
