RPI Posts 3-0 win over Bentley behind York’s Shutout

TROY, N.Y. – Junior goalie Allen York made 23 saves and RPI's top line combined for eight points and scored all three goals, as the Engineers posted a 3-0 win over the Bentley University hockey team on Saturday night in non-conference action at Houston Field House.

RPI improves to 1-2-1 on the season with the win, while Bentley falls to 0-2.

After a scoreless first period that saw Bentley come away empty handed on two 5-on-3 opportunities, RPI netted two goals in the second period, both on the power play.

Senior Chase Polacek netted the first one just 30 seconds into the period with freshman Justin Breton (Fitchburg, Mass./Boston Jr. Bruins) serving a penalty for hooking. Senior Tyler Helfrich set the goal up, feeding Polacek a pass across the slot, who then skated in on the left side for the goal.

Polacek and Helfrich teamed up on the second goal at 9:16, this time with Helfrich scoring. Polacek, on the far circle, passed to Helfrich in the slot who proceeded to beat Falcon goalie Branden Komm (Williamsville, NY/Northfield Mount Herron) top-shelf.

The third member of RPI's top line, sophomore C.J. Lee, netted a goal at 1:50 of the third period with Polacek and Helfrich on the assists.

Komm made 21 saves for Bentley in his collegiate debut.

The Falcons continue their five-game road swing to begin the season next weekend with a series at Clarkson beginning Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
