WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University senior golfer and two-time PING All-East Region honoree Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) has been named one of three finalists for Northeast-10 Conference Man of the Year. The winner will be announced June 4 at the conference's annual awards banquet.

The other two finalists are The College of Saint Rose's Julian Lipinski (basketball) and Southern New Hampshire University's Tyler McLaren (cross country).

The NE10 Man of the Year Award honors student-athletes for their excellence in competition, in the classroom and in community service.

One of the team's co-captains, Meyers was one of the conference's premier golfers with his resume including a team-best 74.0 stroke average (second best in program history), and Golfstat's number four ranking in the NCAA Division II East Region. He finished his career with a 76.05 stroke average and his norm declined during each of his four seasons.

In the classroom, Meyers earned a grade point average exceeding 3.8 while majoring in both accountancy and liberal studies. He graduated Magna Cum Laude, was the 2017 Northeast-10 Sport Scholar-Excellence award winner for golf and is a candidate for the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America team.

In terms of community service, Meyers has been involved with the Greater Waltham ARC and the Prospect Hill Learning Center, as well as the junior golf program at the Hidden Glen at Bentdale Farms Golf Club in his home state of Wisconsin.

In a personal statement submitted with his application for the award, Meyers wrote "my proudest accomplishment at Bentley was my ability to be successful on the golf course and on campus simultaneously. This success couldn't have been possible without growing as an individual throughout the journey.

"Competing as an athlete in school has obvious benefits such as time management, especially while attaining a high GPA or seeking jobs. Involving yourself in the community during this time is equally beneficial.  I pursued two Service-Learning activities at Bentley – working with underprivileged children for a semester and spending time with mentally disabled adults in the community. Working with these diverse populations truly gave me new perspectives. Special Olympics also provided me an opportunity to play golf with disabled individuals. This experience put golf into perspective. I was able to use the game to form relationships and make positive impacts on lives," continued Meyers.

Meyers helped the 2017-18 Falcons capture the Northeast-10 Conference Championship and earn an eighth straight NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional appearance.
