Bentley Finishes 3rd in Own Newport National Classic; Meyers Finishes 5th

NEWPORT, R.I. – Led by senior Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS), the Bentley University golf team finished third among ten teams in the Bentley Newport National Classic, hosted by the Falcons at the Newport Country Club Wednesday.

Bentley, in its final test before the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional next month, put up a 36-hole score of 609, finishing 19 strokes back of both Babson College and Dominican College (N.Y.). Babson earned the team championship by virtue of a better second-round score (289-292).

Meyers was the Falcons' number one finisher as he placed fifth with two-over 146. He shot a three-over 75 during the opening round and fired a one-under 71 during the afternoon.

Also cracking the top ten of the 62-player tournament for Bentley was junior Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland HS). He placed eighth with a 72-76-148.

Four other Falcons finished in the top 20. Sophomore Robert Falconer (Mechanicsburg, Pa./ Cumberland Valley HS) tied for 13th (77-76-153) and freshman Tommy Ethier (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS), junior Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./ Cheshire HS) and senior Jimmy Brunone (Plymouth, Mass./Tabor Academy) all tied for 17th with a 154. Ethier bounced back from a first-round 82 to shoot a 72, Simione followed a 79 with a 75 and Brunone turned in a 78-76.

Babson's Kyle Alexander earned medalist honors after shooting a second-round 67 for a 36-hole score of 142.
