Bentley University senior co-captain Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) has played in nine tournament victories, matching the most by a Falcon during Mickey Herron's seven-and-half years as head coach. That ties Malcom Oliver '16 and Jon Stoddard '15 for the most tournament wins.

Brett Chatfield (Attleboro/Bishop Feehan HS), another one of this season's co-captains, has been part of seven tournament victories, and Jimmy Brunone (Plymouth/Tabor Academy), also a captain this season. Jas been part of four victories.

Note: College golf tournaments average 12 teams per event – with each college sending five players – counting four scores per day.  Since 2010, Bentley has won 18 team titles, including the 2017 Northeast-10 Championships and the 2017 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Division II Championships, the two biggest tournaments on the fall schedule.

Chatfield & Meyers are  the only Bentley golfers in history to participate on two winning conference championship teams, doing so in 2014 and 2017 with both wins occurring on the same golf course, Lake Sunapee Golf Course in New Hampshire.  The 2014 team, which included Stoddard, Oliver, Chatfield, Meyers and Tommy Ayres, fired a 297-296-595  while last fall's championship team included Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS, Robert Falconer (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS), Tommy Ethier (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS), Chatfield & Meyers.  They improved on the 2014 season by three strokes with a 289 303-592.  Interestingly, Bentley visited Lake Sunapee one other time during the Herron era, in the fall of 2013 where they won a regular season ten-team tournament with a 297-300-597.  That's an average of 74.3 for each of the 24 counted tournament rounds at this Donald Ross gem in New Hampshire.

Meyers' NEIGA individual D-II title (72 71-143) was his third trophy in four years, three behind the most successful golfer in Bentley history, Oliver (who is now working and playing as a professional in Florida and Maine). Bentley golfers have now recorded 15 individual victories since 2010 with Oliver and Meyers combining for nine of the 15.

Statistical footnotes – Fall 2017

9 current team members have played on a tournament winning team …  Chatfield, Meyers, Simione, Brunone, Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland HS), Falconer, Ethier, Chris Ehl (Reading, Mass./Reading HS) and Logan French (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic HS). 

The Fall of 2017 was the first semester in which Bentley golf has averaged under 300 for an entire half-year schedule (297.1).  Bentley played six tournaments firing the following daily scores:  291-294-280-284-310-310-289-303-311-303-290-300. Ethier, a freshman, averaged 72.8 in three tournaments followed by Meyers' 73.5 in five events.  In all, 11 different team members played in at least one tournament this fall.   Six current team members averaged 76.0 or less during the Fall:  Ethier, Meyers, Simione (74.2), Falconer (74.8), Kulikowski (75.4) amd Chatfield (76.0).

In what might be the most surprising footnote of the Fall of 2017 was the team's runner-up finish in September's Ryan T. Lee Memorial (hosted by Central Connecticut State University) where 13 Division I teams gathered, along with Bentley, the sole Division II team in the field.  Bentley's 291-294-585 nearly won the entire event, Division I Fordham the only team in the field to defeat the Falcon.  At Hop Meadow Golf Course, Kulikowski led the Falcons with a 145. Bentley also received a 146 from Falconer, 148's from both Chatfield and Simione, and a 151 from Meyers. It was one of the most consistent across the board performances in Bentley golf history with 'throw-out' scores of 76 on day 1 and 77 on day 2!
