Bentley Holds On for 6th Northeast-10 Championship

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Led by sophomore Robert Falconer (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS), Bentley University edged Le Moyne College by a single stroke to capture the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Golf Championship Tuesday at Lake Sunapee Country Club.

Bentley, which led by as many as nine during the second round, struggled down the stretch (eight bogeys or worse over the last four holes) but never gave up the lead it had built over the first day-and-a-half of the tournament.  Birdies on the 500-yard 17th by junior Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./ Cheshire HS) and freshman Tommy Ethier (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS)  came up big in the Falcons staying in first.

Bentley, which automatically qualifies for next May's NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional, finished with a 289-303-592 to claim its first conference title since 2014 and its sixth overall, most of any current NE10 member. Le Moyne was a stroke back and Saint Anselm College finished two behind the Falcons.

Falconer, who was tied for first entering the day, finished in a tie for fifth with a 70-77-147 and earned a spot on the All-Championship team. Senior Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) and Simione also cracked the top ten, tying for seventh with an eight-over 148.

Ethier tied for 16th with a 76-75-151, and senior Brett Chatfield (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS) finished in a tie for 23rd at 74-79-153.

The individual champion was Southern New Hampshire's Matt Paradis, who defeated Saint Anselm's Steven Hunt on the first playoff hole. Both finished the tournament with a three-over 143.
