Meyers Named All-America Scholar by GCAA; Bentley Team Also Honored

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University rising senior Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) has been named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America for his excellence both on the course and in the classroom.

Coach Mickey Herron's Bentley Falcons were also honored as a team by the GCAA, earning All-Academic recognition for compiling a GPA over 3.0. The Falcons were the only Northeast-10 Conference team so honored, and Meyers was the only NE-10 player to receive All-America Scholar accolades.

Requirements to be recognized as an All-America Scholar by the GCAA are to be either a junior or senior academically, participate in each of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 78.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade point average of 3.2.

Meyers, Bentley's number one golfer, certainly met all those marks as he paced the Falcons with a 75.6 stroke average and amassed an impressive 3.81 GPA while majoring in both accountancy and liberal studies.  He was ranked 11th in the East Region by GolfStat and his season included a victory in the Quechee Division II Challenge and a tie for first in the Robert Trent Jones Shootout at Colgate.

It's the latest award in a series for Meyers, who was previously named first-team All-Northeast-10, PING Division II All-East Region and Academic All-Northeast-10. He also received the Northeast-10's Sport Excellence Award for golf as the conference's top scholar-athlete in the sport.

As a team, Bentley accounted for four of the five players on the Academic All-Northeast-10 team. Nine players on the 15-man roster had a GPA of at least 3.4 with seven of those over 3.6.
