DANIELS, W.V. – Led by a career-best round by sophomore Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./ Cheshire HS), the Bentley University golf team climbed four places in the team standings Wednesday to finish the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional 12th among 20 teams.

Playing at The Resort at Glade Springs, Simione birdied five of the first nine holes and had a total of six birds while posting a career-best 69 (31-38). That improved on his previous best by five strokes and matched the lowest by a Falcon this season.

His big third round elevated Simione 48 strokes in the team standings, into a tie for 40th in a field of 107 with a 83-79-69-231.

Bentley's number one golfer for the tournament was sophomore Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland HS). He shot a final round 77 and tied for 28th with a 75-76-77-228.

Matching Simione in the individual standings was junior Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS), who closed with a 77 for a 75-79-77-231. Brett Chatfield (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS), also a junior, had a strong final round (75) and tied for 68th place (79-82-75-236).

Bentley had its best round of the tournament Wednesday with its 298 tying for the day's second-best team score. It came following a disappointing 315 second-round score and gave the Falcons a 920 for the tournament (307-315-298).

Dominican College (N.Y.) (899) earned team honors and advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships along with St. Thomas Aquinas (900), Charleston (903) and Le Moyne (904), which edged Wilmington (Del.) by one stroke for the final qualifying slot.

Individually, Le Moyne's John Clare shot a final round 69 to capture medalist honors with a 215, one better than day two leader Chris Kupniewski of Mercyhurst. He qualified as an individual along with Millersville's Connor Sheehan.

Bentley's 12th-place finish came after back-to-back 13th-place showings in 2015 and 2016, and was the team's best since 2014 (sixth place).
