Bentley Finishes 9th in Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – After completing the first round in seventh place, the Bentley University golf team finished ninth among 12 teams in the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational that concluded Monday at the Penn Oaks Golf Club.

The Falcons, who were sixth in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region rankings, turned in an opening round 322, with play split between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, and bettered that by two strokes over the second 18 to finish at 642. They were one of seven squads to improve from the first round to the second.

For the second straight tournament, Bentley was led by junior Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./ Slinger HS). Meyers, who was three-under on the par-five holes, tied for ninth place with a 74-79-153 and missed out on a top five showing by two strokes.

Bentley's number two man was sophomore Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) with an 80-78-158. He tied for 26th place overall. He tied for fifth in the tournament with five birdies.

Medalist honors in the West Chester-hosted event went to Le Moyne's John Clare, who finished at five-over-par with a 73-74-147. He won by one stroke over Alistair Kyle of Davis & Elkins College, the team champion. Davis & Elkins edged Le Moyne, number four in the East, in the team results, 605-614.

Bentley's next tournament is the Mike Bello Invitational in Baldwinsville, N.Y. Friday.
