Meyers Leads Bentley during Opening Day of Division II Spring Preview in Alabama

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – In a tournament that includes five teams ranked in the top 25, the Bentley University golf team finished the opening round of the North Alabama Division II Spring Preview in 17th place Monday at the Robert Trent Jones Fighting Joe Course.

A total of 18 teams are participating in the tournament which was interrupted by thunderstorms for about three hours. As a result, the uncompleted second round will resume at 7:30 am Tuesday morning with the third round following.

Bentley's team score of 317 included an even-par 72 from junior Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./ Slinger HS). That put him in a tie for fourth among 96 players.

The other Falcon to break 80 on the day was junior Brett Chatfield (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS). He turned in a 79 and is tied for 68th place.

Thirteen players broke par including five who share the lead with a three-under 69. They are Shea Sylvester (Lee), Chance Caylor (West Alabama), Julien de Poyen (Missouri-St. Louis), Tom Forster (Carson-Newman) and Patrick Twesme (North Alabama).

Carson-Newman tops the team leaderboard after a four-under 284. North Alabama stands three strokes back and Limestone is third, six off the pace.
