Meyers & Bentley Finish Atop the Leaderboard at Quechee Division II Challenge

QUECHEE, Vt. – Bentley University junior Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) tied for medalist honors for his first collegiate tournament win, propelling the Falcons to the team championship at the 13-team Quechee Division II Challenge, which concluded Tuesday at the Quechee Club.

Bentley, which was four back entering the day, turned in a second-round 297 to finish at 588, seventh strokes better than runner-up Southern New Hampshire, the host team, and nine in front of St. Thomas Aquinas, last year's number one ranked Division  II team in the East Region. Wilmington University (Del.) actually bettered the Falcons' score by one, but the Wildcats were competing only as individuals.

Meyers finished with a 69-73-142 to share top honors with Wilmington's Miguel Siercke, who followed a first-round 68 with a 74. Michael Miranda of St. Thomas Aquinas took third, a stroke off the pace.

Bentley also received a strong showing from sophomore Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./ Pittsford Sutherland HS), who tied for sixth with a 71-75-146.

Sophomore Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) and junior Brett Chatfield (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro HS) were next on the scoring list for Bentley, each tying for 14th in the 78-man field with a 150. Simione had a second-round 75, one better than Chatfield.

Bentley will be off until Oct. 2-3 when the Northeast-10 Conference Championships are contested at the Old Kinderhook Golf Club in Valatie, N.Y.
