Led by Kulikowski, Bentley Ties for 7th in Ryan T. Lee Memorial

SIMSBURY, Conn. – With sophomore Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland HS) leading the way, the Bentley University golf team tied for seventh place in the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate Tournament, which concluded Sunday at the Hop Meadow Country Club.

Bentley, the only Division II team to participate in the two-day, 14-team event, turned in a second-round 308 and finished the tournament at 609, even with Sacred Heart University. The Falcons missed out on a top-five showing by 13 strokes.

Kulikowski tied for 20th place with a 77-73-150. His team-best 73 on Sunday included five birdies, two coming on par-five holes, and the other two on par-fours. Kulikowski's climb of 22 places from the tourney's midpoint was the fourth best among all participants.

Bentley's number two man in the tournament was junior Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./ Slinger HS). He recorded back-to-back 76s, tying for 29th in the 75-player field, and birdied three times on Sunday.

Junior Brett Chatfield (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS) and sophomore Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) were the Falcons' top golfers on Saturday (both with a 74), but each struggled Sunday.  Simione tied for 34th with a 74-79-153 and Chatfield tied for 39th (74-80-154).

Bryant University captured the team championship, by a commanding 14 strokes over Wagner College, and also had the medalist in Ryan Tombs. He was three-under during the final round and finished four-under for the tournament (71-69-140) to win by four over a trio of golfers, including teammate McKinley Slade.

Bentley's next tournament will be the Southern New Hampshire Quechee Classic in Vermont Sept. 19-20.
