Bentley Concludes Season with 13th-Place Finish in NCAA Regional

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. – Led by sophomore Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) and senior Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy), the Bentley University golf team finished its season by placing 13th among 20 teams in the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional which concluded Wednesday at the Timber Banks Golf Club.

Bentley, with a final round 307, completed the tournament with a three-day score of 931 and missed out on a top ten finish by three strokes.

Meyers tied for tenth place in a field of 108 with a 54-hole score of 224 after turning in a final round 76. Included were four birdies, including his first two holes of the day. Meyers was in the hunt for one of two individual qualifying spots out of the regional for the NCAA Championships, but in the end missed out by two strokes as West Chester's Tyler Maiman finished strong.

Oliver matched his teammate's final round 76, finishing in a tie for 26th with an 82-71-73-229. He concluded his final collegiate season with a school-record 73.7 stroke average.

Bentley's number three man was freshman Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland HS). He tied for 71st with a 81-78-79-238. Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS), who tied for 86th with a 246, matched the final round 76 posted by Meyers and Oliver.

Medalist honors went to Christopher Gentle of St. Thomas Aquinas, who finished with a three-under 214 to edge Le Moyne's John Clare by two.

Gentle's effort helped STAC capture the regional by six strokes over Southern New Hampshire. Those two qualified for the NCAA championships in Denver along with Concordia (N.Y.), Wilmington (Del.) and Le Moyne.
