Meyers Leads Bentley During Opening Day of California Vulcan Invitational
BELLE VERNE, Pa. – With freshman Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) leading the way, the Bentley University golf team finished the opening day of the 13-team California Vulcan Invitational in fifth place. The two-day event will conclude on Saturday.
Playing at the Cedarbrook Golf Course, Meyers turned in a 77 with his round including three birdies. That put him in tenth place overall.
Next on the list for the Falcons were senior co-captains Jon Stoddard (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS) and Quincy Coulter (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest HS). Stoddard finished the day in a tie for 19th after shooting at 79, and Coulter was a stroke behind him in a tie for 28th.
At the top of the leaderboard with an even-par 72 was Kirby Manown of California (Pa.) University, who was competing as an individual. He'll begin the second round one-up on teammate Ben Beswick and Brian Bir (Notre Dame of Ohio).
In the team standings, the host California Vulcans hold a six-stroke lead of Notre Dame, 305-311. Also in front of the Falcons are two schools from West Virginia, West Liberty (314) and Charleston (317).
