Oliver & Meyers Honored by Northeast-10 for Efforts at New Englands

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Golfer of the Week after capturing medalist honors at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships on Monday. It's the second time this season that he's received the honor.

Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS), a Bentley freshman, was chosen the NE-10 co-Rookie of the Week for his efforts at the New Englands, and senior Jon Stoddard (Duxbury/Duxbury HS) was also recognized by the conference with selection to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Oliver became the first Bentley golfer to be the New England champion as he prevailed by three strokes over Matt Hills (Central Connecticut) with a one-under 143. He shot a two-under 70 during the opening round to claim a three-stroke lead and maintained it with a second-day 73. Oliver finished eight strokes better than the number two Division II golfer and had ten birdies during the 36-hole tournament.

Oliver finished the fall season with a 73.7 stroke average. He shot 77 or better in each of his 12 rounds, finished first in the season-opening Joe Plante Invitational and placed third in the Northeast-10 Championships.

Meyer, previously named the NE-10 Rookie of the Year for his performance in the conference championships, received Rookie of the Week honors for the second time after tying for fifth among Division II golfers during the New Englands with a 79-75-154. He closed out his first fall as a collegian with a 75.9 average and received Division II All-New England honors.

Stoddard, whose 74.8 for the fall was second to Oliver, also tied for fifth during the New Englands, posting a 75-79-154 to make his second straight appearance on the Division II All-New England team.

Bentley captured the NEIGA Division II championship for the third time in four years and placed third overall. Earlier in the call, the Falcons were first in the Northeast-10 Championships to automatically qualify for the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional.
