Bentley Finishes Third in AIC Spring Classic

LUDLOW, Mass. – Despite a final-round 71 by sophomore Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy), the Bentley University golf team finished third in the five-team American International College Spring Classic, played Friday at the Ludlow Country Club.

Bentley, number five in this week's NCAA Division II East Region rankings, posted a 36-hole score of 628 to trail AIC (605) and Southern New Hampshire (607) for the second straight tournament. AIC was ninth in the rankings released earlier Friday and Southern New Hampshire was seventh.

Oliver and senior Harry Kirkpatrick (Lancaster/Nashoba Reg. HS) tied for sixth place, each totaling a 154. Oliver came back with a second-round one-under 71 after struggling to an 83 in the morning session. Kirkpatrick followed up a 75 with a 79.

Also cracking the top ten for Bentley was sophomore Tommy Ayres (Bolton/Nashoba Reg. HS), who tied for eighth with a 75-81-156.

AIC's Miguel Siercke earned medalist honors with a 72-70-142, besting Jake Nutter (Southern New Hampshire) and Brad Auclair (Franklin Pierce) by one stroke.

Bentley will conclude its regular season with the Mike Bello Invitational in Baldwinsville, N.Y. Sunday and Monday.
