Bentley Captures Dominican Charger Classic; Stoddard Takes 2nd

SUFFERN, N.Y. – With junior Jon Stoddard (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS) and sophomore Jack Zierolf (Fairfield, Conn./Warde HS) leading the way, the Bentley University golf team captured the championship of the Dominican Charger Challenge, which concluded Monday at the Spook Run Golf Course.

Bentley, with a two-day score of 600, captured the championship by a full ten strokes over runner-up Concordia College (N.Y.), with third-place Le Moyne College 17 strokes back. A total of nine teams participated.

The tournament championship was the Falcons' second of the fall and seventh since the start of the 2011-12 season.

Stoddard, who began the final round with a three-stroke lead, finished the tournament with an even-par 144 after carding a 74 on Monday.  Despite the strong showing, he placed second after Concordia's Eutimio Fernandez-Meade turned in a sparkling 68 for the second 18 to finish one-under for the tournament at 143.

Zierolf followed in second with a 147 after posting a career-best 73 for the second round. Also cracking the top ten was senior captain Harry Kirkpatrick (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba HS), who placed ninth with a 73-79-152.

This weekend, Bentley will be out in the Albany area for the Saint Rose Fall Shootout.
