Bentley & Stoddard Take 2nd in Northeast-10 Championships

KEENE, N.H. – Led by a runner-up finish by junior Jon Stoddard (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS), Bentley University finished second in the 2013 Northeast-10 Conference Golf Championships, which concluded Monday at the Bretwood Golf Course.

Bentley was at the top of the team standings at the start of the day, following a scoring change that dropped Adelphi  from first to second, four strokes back, and Stoddard was the tournament's individual leader through 18, with a three-stroke lead.

However, the second round belonged to Adelphi and Panther sophomore Ryan Snouffer as both successfully defended their 2012 titles. Snouffer fired a six-under 66 for a 36-hole score of 140 and helped his teammates claim the team title by a dozen strokes over Bentley. The Panthers finished at 596 following a second-day 291.

Bentley turned in a 307 Monday to finish the tournament at 608, resulting in an 11-stroke advantage over both American International and Southern New Hampshire, who tied for third in the ten-team tournament.

Stoddard had his best 36-hole score as a collegian, finishing five strokes back of Snouffer with a 145. He closed with a 75 after posting a two-under 70 on Sunday, and was named to the All-Conference first team.

Bentley also placed senior Harry Kirkpatrick (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS) and sophomores  Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy) and Jack Zierolf (Fairfield, Conn./Warde HS) in the top 20. Oliver tied for 14th and missed All-NE-10 honors by one stroke with a 78-77-155. Kirkpatrick (75-81-156) and Zierolf (82-74-156) each tied for 18th.

Bentley's next tournament is the Dominican Charger Invitational in Suffern, N.Y. Oct. 6-7.
