Bentley Visits Stonehill Wednesday with a Shot at Regaining Share of Northeast Division Lead

WALTHAM, Mass. – Back-to-back one-possession losses to Le Moyne and Adelphi in the last two games dropped the Bentley University men's basketball team out of the top spot in the Northeast-10 Conference's Northeast Division.

The Falcons have an opportunity to regain a share of first place Wednesday when they face the current leader, Stonehill College, down in Easton. Tip off at Merkert Gym is set for 7:30 pm with a webcast available on NE10 NOW.

Bentley owns the conference's best overall record at 16-6, and is currently tied with Saint Anselm for second in the Northeast at 8-5. Stonehill, after winning five of seven during the crossover portion of the schedule as well as its last three, is 13-8 overall and 9-4 NE10.

Senior forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Williston Northampton HS) has been playing the best basketball of his career for the Falcons and is within 13 points of coming the 18th player in program history with at least 1,300 points and 600 rebounds.

He's coming off back-to-back games of 25 and a career-high 30 points, and is now averaging 18.6 points and 7.9 rebounds. Hudson is also the only Northeast-10 player with at least 30 blocks and 30 steals.

Sophomore guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS), the team's number two scorer, is one of only four players in the NE10 shooting over.500 overall and .400 from three, with a minimum of 25 trifectas.

Junior guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy), the only player in the East Region averaging at least six rebounds and six assists, is Bentley's third double-figure scorer (12.0). He's made 47 percent of his three-pointers this winter.

As a team, Bentley remains first in the NE10 in scoring margin (+10.3), rebound margin (+6.8) and field goal percentage (.494), assists (17.3) and assist-turnover ratio (1.41), as well as number one in Division II nationally in fewest fouls (11.8).

Stonehill's offense features six-six senior guard Will Moreton, who is tied for second in the conference in three-pointers with 60. He leads the Skyhawks in scoring (19.2), rebounds (8.4) and assists (2.5) with his scoring average fifth in the NE10 and first in the Northeast Division.

Junior guard Owen Chose and senior guard Brandon Twitty, two other threats from deep with a total of 85 triples between them, each score over 13 points a game for Chris Kraus' team.

The only NE10 team shooting at least .400 from three, Stonehill ranks 12th in the conference in scoring (73.5) and third in defense (70.7).

The first meeting of the season between the Falcons and Skyhawks was a Bentley rout, 92-61, as Bentley shot 55 percent overall and made 13 of 19 three-pointers. Mello-Klein led the way with 22 points, six boards and six helpers.

That gave the Falcons a 51-39 advantage in the all-time series and three straight wins over the Skyhawks.

This week's schedule for Coach Jay Lawson's Falcons also includes a Saturday home game with St. Michael's.
