BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In its first two game, the University of Bridgeport made only 13 three-pointers and shot only 21 percent from beyond the arc. The Purple Knights found their touch Wednesday night, knocking down 15 to hand Bentley University its first loss, 79-70, in non-conference men's basketball at the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.

Bentley, 3-1, was led by sophomore guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS) with 18 points and classmate Brian Wright-Kinsey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooks School) with a career-high 15.

Five different players sank at least two three-balls for Bridgeport (2-1) with six-six sophomore Jayden Iturmendi (York, Pa.) coming off the bench to sink four of five from distance and score a team-high 16 points.

Bentley, down by 17 with eight minutes to play, staged a late comeback to draw within six with four minutes left, 74-68. Sophomore forward Adrian Amabilino-Perez (Barcelona, Spain) scored five of the first seven during the 14-3 run and Webb tallied the final five.

The Falcons had a chance to get closer but their next two possessions ended with a turnover and a missed three. The rebound went to Bridgeport and the Purple Knights' Travis Robinson-Morgan (Elmont, N.Y.) beat the shot clock with a top-of-the-key three, pushing the differential back to nine.

Bridgeport took control with a 17-2 first-half run that turned a three-point Bentley lead, 11-8, into a 25-13 Purple Knight advantage. Robinson-Morgan scored five during the run, including a triple from the right corner.

Later in the half, eight straight UB points, including a pair of threes from junior guard Juan Coffi (Barcelona, Spain), made it 40-22.

The first half ended with Bridgeport up 45-31 after shooting 50 percent overall and seven of 15 from deep. The Falcons made only one of six threes and turned it over 11 times.

Webb scored his 18 on 7-of-11 shooting, and also had four rebounds and four assists. Wright-Kinsey was the only Falcon to make multiple threes, finishing three of six.

Bentley's scoring list also included 13 points from junior forward Pete Blust (Hinsdale, Ill./ Hinsdale Central HS) and 12 from senior forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Northampton Williston School). Hudson led the Falcons in rebounds with seven.

In addition to the 16 from Iturmendi, Bridgeport received 14 points from six-seven senior Bakary Camera (Harlem, N.Y.) and 13 from Coffi.

Bentley outshot the Purple Knights, 48-45 percent, overall but Bridgeport made nine more three-pointers with the Falcons only 6 of 17 outside the arc. Rebounds were even, Bentley made a dozen more free throws and the Purple Knights had six fewer turns, losing it only nine times.

Bentley, 3-1, will be back at home Saturday to face New York Tech at 2:30 pm.
