WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate) amassed 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting and climbed from ninth to sixth on the program's all-time scoring list as the Bentley University Falcons completed the 2018 portion of the schedule with an 81-57 win over the University of Bridgeport in non-conference men's basketball Sunday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Bentley, ranked 15th in Division II, won for the 11th time in 12 games this season after turning in another strong shooting performance. The Falcons finished at .517 overall, made 8 of 18 from three and sank all but one of their 14 free throw attempts.

Meanwhile, Bridgeport dropped its sixth straight to fall to 5-8 on the year.

The Falcons, who were playing for the first time in 11 days, got off to a slow start, misfiring on eight of their first nine shots. That enabled Bridgeport to jump out to a 13-2 lead after six minutes of play.

Following a timeout, Bentley took over. Coach Jay Lawson's team made 15 of its next 21 shots and outscored the visitors 38-13 the rest of the half with the 25-point swing sending the Falcons into halftime with a 40-26 lead.

Richmond and sophomore guard Colton Lawrence (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO HS) led the surge with Richmond making six of nine for 13 points and Lawrence following with 10 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Zach Gilpin (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) pitched in with nine points and four boards during the opening half.

The 38-13 burst included a run of 14 unanswered, a stretch in which the Falcons went from seven down to a 27-20 lead. Lawrence had eight of the 14 with both a three from long distance and a traditional three-point play. Richmond scored twice in the paint and Gilpin also had a driving lay-up.

The second-half differential stayed between 10 and 18 most of the way, until a late 16-0 run made it an 81-55 game in the final minute. Included were a pair of "and-ones" converted by Richmond.

Richmond, who also had four rebounds and three assists, finished the game with 1,681 points. During the contest, he surpassed Sean Cooke '06, Al Grenfell '75 and Todd Orlando '84 on Bentley's all-time scoring list.

Lawrence turned in his third double-double, finishing with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and the Falcons also received 12 points from sophomore guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy) and 11 from Gilpin, with both players also collecting five rebounds. Junior forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Williston Northampton) scored only five but came up with nine rebounds.

Off the bench, Bentley received seven points from a pair of freshmen, Brian Wright-Kinsey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooks School) and Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS).

Six-foot-six junior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) led Bridgeport with 23 points on 11-of-17 shooting.

While Bentley was shooting over 50 percent for the seventh time, Bridgeport finished at .338, a season-low for a Falcon opponent, and made only 4 of 28 from downtown. The Purple Knights also made only one trip to the line, making one of two.

Rebounds favored the Falcons, 43-37, but Bridgeport had the edge in turnovers with only eight, six less than the home team.

Bentley will launch the 2019 portion of the schedule Wednesday with a 7 pm home game against Assumption.
