Richmond Selected 1st-Team All-Northeast-10; Mello-Klein Earns Rookie Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate), who has helped the Falcons reach the conference semifinals with Division II's 12th best scoring average, has been selected for the 2017-18 Northeast-10 All-Conference men's basketball first team, which was announced on Monday.

Also recognized by the conference, as a member of the All-Rookie Team, was Falcon freshman guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy).

Richmond, a second-team honoree a year ago as a sophomore, has had a standout year for the 16-11 Falcons with his 23.2 scoring average putting him on track to break Ray Andersen's 49-year-old school record of 22.8. His career point total stands at 1,379, the third highest achieved by a Falcon prior to his senior season.

Richmond has averaged over 25 points since the calendar changed to 2018 with his list of accomplishments including hitting a game-winning three in OT at NE10 Southwest Division champion Le Moyne College and scoring a season-high 39 points at Franklin Pierce in the regular season finale. That win clinched the third seed out of the NE10's Northeast Division for coach Jay Lawson's team.

Richmond, one of only three players in program history to have two 600-point seasons, scored 22.6 points per game last season, the highest by a Bentley guard. He finished that season by scoring a school-record 45 in an NE10 quarterfinal game at Adelphi.

Currently third in the conference in scoring, Richmond was recently selected for the Academic All-District team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and will appear on the national ballot for Academic All-America® consideration.

Mello-Klein, a starter in 23 of the team's 27 games, has averaged 7.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and three assists this season. He's shot 49 percent overall, has made 23 of 44 from three-point land, is second on the team in defensive rebounds (123) and owns a solid 2-1 assist-turnover ratio.

Bentley will travel to Manchester, N.H. on Wednesday to take on Saint Anselm College in the Northeast-10 semifinals.
