SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On a night in which he became the 53rd player in program history to reach 1,000 career points, Bentley University junior guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thompson Collegiate) buried a game-winning three with six-tenths of a second left to give his team a 73-70 win over Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Wednesday night on Ted Grant Court.

Bentley, which faced an 11-point deficit with 6:20 left in regulation, outscored the region's top-ranked team 29-15 the rest of the way to improve to 8-5 overall and 5-3 in the conference. Le Moyne suffered its first league loss of the season, dropping to 9-5 overall and 6-1 NE10.

Richmond's game-winner capped a 25-point night in he scored a dozen in the second half and five more in the OT.  He joined Bentley's 1,000-point club on a fall-away jumper from 15 with nine minutes left on the first-half clock.

The decisive three, his first in seven attempts from beyond the arc, came after Le Moyne senior guard Tyquan Rolon (Syracuse, N.Y.) forged the game's 11th tie on a driving lay-up with 9.5 seconds left in the OT. Back in late February, Richmond drained another buzzer-beating three on the road, that one coming at Merrimack to give the Falcons a berth in last season's NE10 championship tournament.

Bentley's comeback began with the Falcons scoring seven unanswered in 66 seconds to cut the Dolphins' lead to four, 55-51 with 5:18 left in the second. Richmond made two free throws, sophomore forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Northampton Williston School) finished a fast break after a steal by freshman guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon, Mass./Thayer Academy) and tacked on the free throw, and Richmond hit a 15-foot turn-around.

The Falcons got within two, 59-57, on the strength of a steal and lay-up by senior forward Brandon Wheeler (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic HS) and tied the game at 61 on a Richmond 14-footer with 2:13 left.

It was still even at 61 when Hudson rebounded a Le Moyne miss with 21 seconds left. Bentley ran the clock down but before attempting a shot, turned it over with 1.5 seconds. A desperation heave by Dolphin senior guard Russell Sangster (Rockville, Md.) bounced off the rim, sending the game to OT.

Richmond, with a 10-footer, and Hudson, with a three, scored the first five points of OT and Bentley never trailed in the extra session of a game they never led for the final 28 minutes of regulation. Le Moyne came back to even the score three times before Richmond's final heroics.

The All-Conference guard was 9 of 19 overall with his stat line also including six of seven at the line and six rebounds. He finished the game with 1,022 for his career.

Hudson, who scored Bentley's first 11 points, followed with 20 points, eight rebounds and two steals. He made seven of his ten shots, two of three from deep and four of six free throws.

Junior forward Zach Gilpin (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) followed with 12 points and Wheeler was immense on the boards, finishing with 16, including six offensive.

Sangster led four double-digit scorers for Le Moyne with 21, and he also had six rebounds and four assists in 39 turnover-free minutes.

Bentley improved its shooting as the game went on, finishing at .413 after struggling in the first (.355), connecting at a .417 clip in the second and hitting five of eight in OT. Le Moyne cooled off to .379 in the second but finished at .429 after making four of six in OT.

Coach Jay Lawson's team outscored the Dolphins 14-3 from the foul line and finished with a nine-rebound advantage, 45-36. That included 25-16 after halftime.

Bentley will be back in action Saturday when it hosts Saint Rose at 3:30 pm.
