WORCESTER, Mass. – Juniors Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate) and Zach Gilpin (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) combined for 42 points on 15-of-22 shooting as Bentley University used a 50-point second half to post an 82-58 win over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Tuesday night at Laska Gym.

Richmond finished with 25 points, six assists and five rebounds while Gilpin knocked down five of six shots, all but one from beyond the arc, for 17 points.

Bentley shot 59 percent in the second half and dominated the boards all night, 44-22, to improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 NE10. Assumption stayed winless with half of their four contests to date against conference foes.

Neither team could get anything established in a first half that included 11 lead changes and six ties. Four was the biggest differential and Bentley took a 32-30 lead into the break after Richmond scored the final four points, a jumper in the paint and a pair from the stripe.

Bentley opened the second half by scoring seven of the first nine to go up 39-32. Senior wing Brandon Wheeler (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic HS) had a second-chance basket, Gilpin stuck a three from the right side and Richmond made a fast-break lay-up.

With the difference six with a little under 14 to play, Bentley seized control with an 18-5 run over the next six minutes, extending the lead to 19, 63-44. Richmond and sophomore forward Colton Lawrence (Myerstown, Pa./ECHO HS) completed the surge by scoring the final five, a long two-pointer and a three-pointer.

A 15-2 run later in the half produced the game's biggest lead, 82-54 with just under a minute to play.

Richmond finished 10 of 16 from the floor, one of two from three and four of four at the line. Gilpin complemented his 17 with four rebounds. Off the bench, Lawrence scored nine, sophomore guard Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./Hill School) hit two triples for eight points, and junior forward Kyle Bouchard (Houlton, Maine/Houlton HS) chipped in with seven.

Assumption received 12 points apiece from sophomore forward Joe Sullivan (Utica, N.Y.) and junior guard Jordan Shea (Madison, Wisc.).

After shooting only about 40 percent in the first half, Bentley made 20 of 34 overall after play resumed, including six of nine from outside the arc. The Falcons finished at 51 percent overall, including 10 of 19 from three, while the Hounds hit at only a .370 success rate, including 8 of 24 from three. In the second half, they put only 31 percent of their attempts through the basket.

Bentley's rebound domination included 26-11 in the second half. Wheeler single-handedly matched Assumption's five offensive rebounds and finished with ten total rebounds, along with seven points.

Next up for the Falcons is a home game against Franklin Pierce a week from Wednesday.
