Hyland & McFarland Selected for CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University men's basketball standouts Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) and Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) have been selected for the 2016 Division II Academic All-District 1 team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Hyland and McFarland will be two of the six players from District 1 who'll advance to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America® consideration. Hyland was a first-team Academic All-America pick a year ago and is one of only four returning Division II Academic All-Americas this season.

District 1 includes student-athletes competing in the Northeast-10, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and the East Coast Conference.

Hyland, a graduate student who is pursuing his MBA, has elevated his season scoring average to 20.0 after putting up 27.3 a game over the last six contests. The six-foot-four guard has the sixth highest career scoring average in program history at 17.4, and has surpassed 1,200 career points in only 69 games.

Hyland is fourth in the Northeast-10 Conference in scoring and is also seventh in field goal percentage (.534) and steals (1.4), as well as eighth in rebounds (8.0).

McFarland, just 44 points away from becoming Bentley's third 2,000-point scorer, leads the Northeast-10 with 23.5 points per game. The six-foot-five senior has averaged 29 points in his last four games, a stretch in which he's shot .582 overall, totaled 13 three-pointers and knocked down 25 of 26 free throws.

One of three NE-10 players averaging at least two blocks, McFarland leads the NE-10 in free throw percentage (.910) and is Bentley's number two rebounder at 7.5. He ranks in the top four in program history in ten different categories, including number one in minutes per game (34.6), second in field goals (730) and blocks (154), and third in scoring average (18.8).
