WALTHAM, Mass. – After entering the game with a lofty .552 field goal percentage through five games, Bentley University never recovered from missing six of its first seven and dropped a 77-61 decision to Holy Family University Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's basketball action at HFU's Campus Center Gymnasium.

All five Tiger starters scored in double figures with senior guard Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa.) leading the way with 20 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Six-foot-eight senior Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed with 13, including the game's first five points.

That was part of a 12-2 Holy Family run to open the contest as the Falcons scored on only one of their first eight possessions.

The closest the visitors came the rest of the way was seven after junior guard Chris Murray (Littleton, Mass./Littleton HS) drained a three-ball with about three minutes left in the first half to bring the Falcons within seven at 29-22.

Holy Family, which finished the game with an identical record as the Falcons (4-2),  closed the opening half with a 8-2 spurt to restore its lead to 13, 37-24, and scored the first seven once play resumed to push it to 44-24. That combined 15-2 run included a pair of threes from senior guard Eric Fleming (Philadelphia, Pa.).

After a Murray lay-up brought Bentley within 14 with over 12 minutes to play, Holy Family ran off 11 unanswered for a commanding 66-41 lead with 8:36 left. Gans finished that run with his third trifecta of the contest.

Senior All-Northeast-10 forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills ) led Bentley with 15 points and moved past Kevin Van Dam '02 into ninth on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,587 points. His line also included six rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.

Bentley's other double-figure scorer was freshman guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./ Thompson Collegiate School), with 13 points and eight rebounds, both career bests, off the bench. He connected on three of his four attempts from downtown and also made all four of his free throws.

Junior guard Ferguson Duke (Dartmouth, N.S./Hun School (N.J.)) added nine points, four assists and five rebounds for the Falcons, who were held 28.6 points below their season norm. The Falcons hit ten threes but shot only 38 percent overall and turned the ball over 17 times, nine more than Holy Family.

The Tigers shot 44 percent overall and 41 percent from three, making 11 of 27 from long distance. In addition to turnovers, the home team had a big advantage in points in the paint, 30-12.

In addition to 33 combined points from Charles and Gans, Holy Family received 12 points from Fleming, a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double from senior forward Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa.), and 11 points and five assists from senior wing Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J.).

Bentley will look to get back on track Wednesday when it hosts Saint Anselm College at 7 pm.
