Bentley Looks to Bounce Back at Assumption

WALTHAM, Mass. – Following a pair of one-possession games, one that went in the Falcons' direction and one that didn't, the Bentley University men's basketball team will be back at it Tuesday night when it plays a Northeast-10 Conference contest at Assumption College. Tip-off at Laska Gym is scheduled for 7:30 pm with a free webcast available at www.assumptiongreyhounds.tv.

Bentley, which will be playing the third of four straight games away from home, will head to Worcester with records of 3-1 overall and 1-0 NE-10 following Saturday's non-conference loss at Bridgeport, a 24-game winner a year ago.

Assumption has an identical overall record after splitting a pair of conference games last week. The Greyhounds, under first-year head coach Michael Harding, bounced back from an 83-66 loss to Stonehill in the home opener with a 90-80 victory at St. Michael's.

Senior Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) is off to a strong start to the season for the Falcons with the six-foot-five forward already having climbed seven places on the Falcons' career scoring list and on the brink of cracking the top ten. With 1,543 career points, he needs just five to pass Brian Tracey '11 and move into tenth all-time.

Coming off a 32-point, 11-rebound effort at Bridgeport, McFarland is second in the Northeast-10 with a 25.8 scoring average and also number five in blocks (2.3 a game). He's shot .567 overall and has knocked down 19 of 22 free throws (.864).

Bentley's other double-figure scorers are grad student Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/ South Portland HS) and senior guard Alex Furness (Wells, Maine/Wells HS), with averages of 14.8 and 13.0, respectively.

Hyland averaged 22 points, 8.5 rebounds and four assists in last week's last two games while Furness has a spectacular assist-turnover ratio of 15-1 so far, as well as a team-best 12 threes and a .513 shooting mark.  His effective field goal percentage is an impressive .667.

Junior guard Ferguson Duke (Dartmouth, N.S./Hun School (N.J.)) follows at 9.5 points and 3.5 assists per game with a .667 field goal percentage.

Assumption, in its first four games, has shot nearly 40 percent from deep and forced nearly 18 turnovers a game, second most in the conference. All nine players who have seen action so far this season for the Greyhounds have a steal with senior guard Julian Aiken at the top of the list with seven.

Junior guard Declan Soukup, after playing only 11 minutes a game a year ago, has stepped up during the first four, averaging a team-high 15.5 points and three assists. Sophomore guard Kamali Bey follows at 12.0, and junior guard Reilly Reid has an 11.5 average off the bench. Reid has hit half of his 18 three-pointers and sophomore Mat Sulda has been even better, hitting 8 of 14 in limited minutes.

Bentley will also be on the road Saturday, playing at 3-2 Holy Family.
