4 Bentley Falcons Named to 2014-15 NABC Honors Court

WALTHAM, Mass. – Four members of the 2014-15 Bentley University men's basketball team, including first-team Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS), have been named to the NABC Honors Court by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

In addition to Hyland, Bentley was represented by rising seniors Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) and Vince Mancini (Salt Lake City, Utah/Judge Memorial Catholic HS), along with recent graduate Kevin Carpenter (Lenox/Lenox HS). Hyland and Carpenter are both finance majors, McFarland is majoring in marketing and Mancini's major is corporate finance and accounting.

Coach Jay Lawson's club was also recognized as a team, with the Falcons receiving an NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2014-15 season. It's the second straight year that the Falcons have been honored.

In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are be a junior or senior academically, have a GPA of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year and have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.

It's the latest in a series of academic honors for Hyland, who'll be returning as a graduate student this coming year for his final year of eligibility. The third-team All-Conference honoree was previously received the Northeast-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence award for men's basketball and was also chosen for the Academic All-Northeast-10 team.

McFarland, a two-time All-Conference second-team selection, will begin his final season 18th on Bentley's all-time scoring list with 1,440 career points. He was among the Northeast-10's top five scorers last season, as was Hyland.

Carpenter appeared in 24 games during his career and Mancini has been in 19, including a dozen this past winter.
