Bentley-New Haven to Stage Rematch on Wednesday

WALTHAM, Mass. – A month after squaring off in a non-conference encounter down in Connecticut, the Bentley University Falcons and University of New Haven will meet at the Dana Center, this time in a Northeast-10 Conference game. Tip-off at the Dana Center Wednesday night is set for 7:30 pm.

The first meeting went to the road team with Bentley using 11 three-pointers and a .481 field goal percentage to prevail 74-63. An 11-2 run, sandwiched around intermission, produced a 13-point lead about two minutes into the second half and the Falcons held off the Chargers the rest of the way.

Bentley junior forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) and six-foot-eight New Haven senior Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J.) are two of the premier players in the conference, and both were major factors in that first meeting. McFarland buried seven three-pointers and finished with a career-high 31 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Anderson's production was nearly identical with 29 points, nine boards and two blocks.

While New Haven (11-5, 6-4 NE-10) seemingly has a spot in next month's conference championships secured, 10-7 Bentley is in a battle in the tightly-congested Northeast Division. With a 5-6 conference record, the Falcons are currently in sixth place, a half-game out of the top five with ten to play. Of the eight teams in the Northeast, six will begin Wednesday with exactly ten overall wins and another has nine.

McFarland, coming off a 28-point, 11-rebound effort in Saturday's 84-77 loss to American International, continues to lead the conference in three-point accuracy (42-86, .488) and blocks (42) while averaging 19.8 points and 7.6 rebounds.

The other double-figure scorers for the Falcons are senior guards Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) and JP Koury (Red Bank, N.J./CBA HS). Hyland averages 18.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists while Koury provides 10.5 points and 1.8 steals a game.

For New Haven, Anderson has been having another standout season. He leads Division II in rebounding, averaging 12.9, with his scoring average of 17.7 a career-high. The two-time NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year had an incredible triple-double in an overtime win over Saint Anselm New Year's Eve, with 26 points, 28 rebounds and 10 assists.

Sophomore guard Jamal Mosley, next with a 14.8 scoring average, has buried 51 three-pointers, the second highest total in the conference. Six-foot-eight senior Jonny Ocasio is a factor off the bench, giving the Chargers over nine a game.

Bentley leads the Northeast-10 in free throws made (15.5), free throw accuracy (.783) and assist-turnover ratio (1.32), and is fourth in scoring at 80 a game. New Haven is number one in the conference in fewest turnovers (11.2, with the Falcons third at 11.4), and is second in both scoring defense (64.1) and in defending the three (.305).

Wednesday's game is the only contest of the week for the Falcons, who won't play again until next Wednesday at Saint Rose.
