McFarland Earns 3rd Career NE-10 Spalding Player of the Week Award

WALTHAM, Mass. – After averaging 24 points and making two-thirds of his three-point attempts in a pair of road wins, Bentley University junior forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Spalding Men's Basketball Player of the Week. It's the first time this season and the third time in his career that he's received the honor.

This is the second straight time a Bentley player has received the award as the conference's top player with senior guard Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) the honoree a week ago.

McFarland, in addition to 24 points, produced six rebounds, two blocks and one assist a game while shooting .567 overall, a sparking .667 from deep (10-15) and 1.000 at the line (4-4)).

After scoring 16 points in an 80-70 win at Caldwell College, McFarland buried a career-high seven three-pointers and scored a season-high 31 points to lead the Falcons to a 74-63 victory at New Haven Sunday.

McFarland leads the Falcons in scoring with his team-leading 19.9 average sixth best in the NE-10. He's also second in the conference in blocks (31), fourth in three-pointers made (31) and fifth in three-point accuracy (.517).

McFarland, who became Bentley's 50th 1,000-point scorer Nov. 25, has since moved to 35th on the all-time scoring list with 1,162 points. His career scoring average of 17.3 is fifth best in program history and he's in the top two in three-point percentage, minutes per game, free throw percentage and blocks per game.

The Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll included Hyland and Falcon senior guard JP Koury (Red Bank, N.J./CBA). Hyland averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists while Koury gave the Falcons 15 points, 3.5 steals and three rebounds a game. He posted a .588 field goal percentage and connected on half of his ten three-point attempts.

Bentley, 7-5 after winning four straight and six of its last seven, will host Franklin Pierce on New Years Eve day at 2 pm.
