WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) scored 25 points and also filled the stat sheet with seven rebounds, four steals, three blocks and three assists as the Falcons rolled to a 104-57 non-conference win over the University of Bridgeport in men's college basketball action Sunday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Bentley dominated across the board en route to its largest margin of victory in 20 years with the Falcons shooting 52 percent overall, knocking down 13 of 26 from three-point land and sinking 86 percent of their free throws (25-29). In addition, the home team committed only seven turnovers and finished with a 23-4 advantage in points off.

It was a wire-to-wire victory as Bentley used a three-pointer from senior forward Andrew Shaw (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and a pair of McFarland free throws to take a quick 5-0 lead before the game was 35 seconds old.

Bentley broke the game open with a 14-2 run that made it 30-13 on the scoreboard with more than eight minutes still left on the first-half clock. Seven different players contributed points during that stretch which included the second of McFarland's four three-pointers.

The Falcons continued to build on their lead and went into the break riding a 24-point advantage, 53-29. McFarland had 16 of his points by that point, and Bentley had a 16-0 advantage in points off turns.

The first two-and-a-half minutes of the second saw Bentley put together an 11-3 burst, capped by a three by sophomore guard Ferguson Duke (Dartmouth, N.S./Hun School (N.J.)), to double the Purple Knights, 64-32.  

The remainder of the second half included runs of 11-0 and 10-0, with the differential peaking at 49 in the final minute.

McFarland, who scored his 1,000th career point earlier in the week, made eight of 15 shots overall, including four of six from deep, and was perfect on his five free throws. His four treys, which boosted his three-point accuracy to .571, was double the number that Bridgeport made as a team.

Junior forward Shaq Phelps (Linden, N.J./Linden HS) followed with 16 points and six rebounds off the bench. Freshman guard Brandon Wheeler (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic HS) was also a factor in a non-starting role, finishing with a career-best 13 (4-7 fg, 4-4 ft), and Shaw finished with a season-best 12 points.

Bentley also received nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists from senior guard Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) and eight points, in just six minutes, from senior forward Jate Cheshul (Galloway, N.J./Holy Spirit HS).

Junior guard Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Bridgeport (2-3) with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Bridgeport was held to 32 percent shooting, including just 2 of 21 from downtown, and was outrebounded 43-35.

Bentley, 2-4, returns to Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday when it hosts Merrimack College at 7:30 pm.
