Bentley Looks to Get Back on Winning Track Tuesday at SNHU

WALTHAM, Mass. – Following three losses by a total of 13 points, the Bentley University men's basketball team will attempt to get back on the winning track when it plays at Southern New Hampshire University Tuesday night. Tip-off at the SNHU Field House is scheduled for 7:30 pm with links to free live video at www.bentleyfalcons.com.

Bentley dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the Northeast-10 with Saturday's 90-85 loss to undefeated Stonehill College. The Falcons had their best field goal percentage of the young season (.492) but saw the Skyhawks bury 15 of 28 three-pointers, a sizzling .536 accuracy mark from downtown.

Junior forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS), with his next point, will become the 50th member of Bentley's 1,000-point club, and the 18th to achieve that mark as a junior. He's coming off a 29-point effort in the Stonehill game, with his 12-of-17 shooting performance including four three-pointers in five attempts.

McFarland and senior guard Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) are one of just two sets of teammates in the NE-10 who are each averaging 19 points a game or better. McFarland will enter Tuesday's games with norms of 19.0 points and 6.5 rebounds, and Hyland has a slight edge in each of those categories, 20.3 and 7.3.

Senior guard JP Koury (Red Bank, N.J./CBA) is also off to a productive start for the Falcons, with averages of 12.3 points, seven rebounds, three assists and 2.3 steals. That's a combination that only one other NE-10 player can match.

The injury-hampered Falcons won't have an easy task at Southern New Hampshire, which will come into the game with records of 2-1 overall and 1-1 NE-10, the only blemish being a 64-61 loss at St. Michael's Saturday. In addition, Bentley is winless in its last three visits to SNHU, the last win coming in November 2010.

Junior wing Rodney Sanders (Linden, N.J.), a former high school teammate of Bentley's Shaq Phelps, is off to a great start this season for the Penmen. He's built an 18.0 scoring average while shooting 65 percent overall and a ridiculous 77 percent from three (10-13). With 10 steals, Sanders is also a major reason while SNHU leads the conference in that category and turnovers forced.

Six-foot-six senior Elijah Bonsignore (Felton, Del.) follows at 11.7 points a game and is also the team-leader in rebounds (5.3) and blocks (8).  Augustana transfer Devin Gilligan (Amherst, N.H.) has fit in well in his first three SNHU games, averaging 10.7 points and two steals while shooting 62 percent.

This coming week also has Bentley hosting Bridgeport in a Sunday matinee.
