Fast Start Propels Bentley to 121-70 Exhibition Win over St. Mary’s (Canada)

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) scored 21 points in only 22 minutes and five teammates joined him in double figures as Bentley University rolled to a 121-70 exhibition win over St. Mary's University (Canada) Friday night at the Dana Center.

Bentley, which shot a blistering 62 percent overall while making 13 of 24 three-pointers, used an early 27-2 explosion to open a commanding 31-6 lead a little more than seven minutes into the game. The Falcons made 13 of their first 16 shots, including five of five from downtown, and finished the opening half with a .647 field goal percentage and a 65-40 lead.

McFarland made eight of 11 shots overall and was perfect on five free throw attempts with his night also including three assists and three offensive rebounds.

The rest of the starting five all had at least nine points  with senior forward Andrew Shaw (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) scoring 16 in just 14 minutes and senior guard Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) a dozen. Hyland, who connected on both of his three-pointers, also recorded six rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Sophomore Tyler Gibson (Rockland/Rockland HS) had a productive night off the bench, hitting all six of his shots for 14 points while also providing five rebounds and three blocks.

Also scoring in doubles were junior forwards Shaq Phelps (Linden, N.J./Linden HS) and Vince Mancini (Salt Lake City, Utah/Judge Memorial), each with 11.

Bentley dominated the boards, 48-24, and had a 24-9 edge in second chance points.

Bentley will have another exhibition game Saturday night, a 7:00 contest against St. Thomas Xavier (Canada) at the Dana Center.
