WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) finished with 23 points and nine rebounds, and junior forward Andrew Shaw (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) buried five three-pointers, as Bentley University improved to 4-0 with a 82-75 win over Holy Family University in non-conference men's basketball Sunday afternoon.

Bentley survived 22 turnovers that led to 28 Tiger points with outstanding shooting against a Holy Family team that limited its first four opponents to a .309 field goal percentage. The Falcons connected at a 68 percent clip in the second half and finished at 55 percent overall, 48 percent from three (11-23) and 83 percent from the line (19-23).

Shaw opened the game's scoring with a three from the right wing, giving the Falcons a lead they never relinquished in a wire-to-wire victory. Following a Holy Family basket, Bentley ran off the next eight to claim an 11-2 lead after four-and-a-half minutes. That run saw junior guard JP Koury (Red Bank, N.J./CBA) made a pair of free throws and McFarland score the next six on a 16-foot jumper, a lay-up following a steal and a foul line jumper.

Later in the first half, three-pointers by Shaw and freshman guard Matt Barr (Stratham, N.H./ Cushing Academy) bookended an 11-2 spurt that produced a 30-18 lead with 3:52 remaining.

The first 12 minutes of the second half saw the Falcons gradually build on their lead, with back-to-back threes by Barr and McFarland producing the game's biggest lead at 19 points, 64-45 with 7:42 to play.

Holy Family got hot late, using a 19-4 explosion to close to within four, 79-75 with 47.1 seconds remaining. Two free throws by McFarland and one of two from senior guard Jasper Grassa (Lynn/ Lynn Classical HS), as well as defensive stops on the final two Tiger possessions, locked up the win, Bentley's eighth straight dating back to last  February.

McFarland achieved his game-high 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Grassa followed with 16, Shaw closed with 15 and Koury netted a dozen as the quartet combined for 66 points and all 19 of the Falcons' free throws. They also had 27 of the team's 36 rebounds with Grassa, Shaw and Koury all grabbing six.

Bentley also received eight points and four assists off the bench from Barr, and sophomore guard Alex Furness (Wells, Maine/Wells HS) dished out six assists.

Holy Family, 3-2, also placed four in doubles with senior guard Ervin Ezell (Deptford, N.J.) topping the list with 16 points.

Bentley finished with a 36-32 edge in rebounds and made ten more free throws, 19-9. Holy Family shot only .397 overall but buried 12 three-pointers (one more than the Falcons), committed only 11 turns and had a 28-10 advantage in points off turnovers, including 21-2 after intermission.

Bentley will return to action Wednesday with a home Northeast-10 encounter with Assumption (7:30).
