SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior midfielder Madison Halas (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate HS) scored the game's only goal 2:13 into the third quarter as Bentley University closed out the regular season with a 1-0 win over American International College in Northeast-10 field hockey action on Abdow Field.
Halas' first goal of the season and first career game-winner came off a penalty corner. With senior Caroline Szatkowski (Reeders, Pa./Pocono Mountain East HS) as the inserter, the ball came out to senior Bridget Coughlin (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingsboro Reg. HS). She sent it over to Halas, who drove it into the cage.
Sophomore Erin McGuinness (Rutland/Wachusett Reg. HS) was credited with the shutout but did not need to make any saves as her teammates outshot the Yellow Jackets 13-3.
Penalty corners also favored Bentley, 8-1.
For AIC (2-15, 1-11 NE10), senior Taylor Wildes (Biddeford, Maine) made three saves.
The Falcons, 11-7 overall and 9-4 NE10, will be the third seed in next week's Northeast-10 Championships and will host sixth-seeded New Haven Tuesday at 7 pm.
